Question:

My brakes keep squeaking on my bike?

Whenever I press the handle breaks on my bike, they squeak. The front tire is low pitched, and the back tire is a high pitched squeak. What could be wrong?

Thanks =)

  1. They are probably rusty. Just pour some oil on those babies.

  2. depends on what type of brakes you have because i had that problem with my breaks back in the day with v breaks (two rectangle rubber things) but i didn't use oil that's the last thing i would use i would look  at the brakes and if they are touching the rim if they are the v brakes then back them away a bit and they should be fine but make sure you don't back them off to far away from  the rim just enough to see through the space between the pads and the rim,if you use oil it could make the breaks not stop and that would suck big time. by the way i've been biking since i was 3-4 i don't remember but its been since i was very little so that's what i am going with

  3. they could be rusty just oil them

  4. oil on the brakes is just a bad idea, try cleaning the tire rim and adjust the pads, if that doesn't work replace the pads, last resort take it in to a bike shop for a tune up

  5. Do NOT oil your brakes or it will be dangerous. You could perhaps clean them using a lightly oiled rag but make sure no oil gets onto the brake blocks or wheel rims. If they're stopping you okay then a bit of squeaking isn't something you should be concerned about.
