My bras are awful grey looking but are still in good condition?

Apart from using that expensive stuff for whitening underwear is there anything else that does the trick? Preferably something that does not involve hours of soaking first - what works well in the wash?

  1. never tried it on bras-lol-but oxi clean cleaned some old curtians pretty good-didnt do much on other things-50/50 it will work

  2. How old are these bras? If you've had them for years, why not treat yourself to some new ones? It would be cheaper in the long run, so you don't have to spend lots on these products that get rid of the grey. x

  3. DON'T use bleach, it will ruin the eleastic and could turn them yellow. Soak them in hot water with a fabric safe bleach like clorox 2. Wash as usual. Rinse with a couple cups of white vinegar in the rinse cycle.

To keep them from getting gray in the first place, don't use too much detergent, NEVER use fabric softner and line dry.

  4. I SOAK them overnight in a mild solution of HOT water and bleach... Launder as usual and hang them in the SUN to dry.

Also, I would get a couple of nice/new bras to wear for special occassions- get sized to make sure you are buying for proper fit/size... Use old bras for lounging/weekend wear!

  5. EUUUUU. Glad I am not dating you. Just go buy some new frilly ones.

  6. Erm just buy new ones that are in even better condition...?

  7. I heard you are supposed to buy new bras each year as after a while, the lycra in them isn't as springy, the straps will have lost their stretch and the strap across the back will have got longer so you won't be getting the proper support you need.

You can try proper designated laundry bleaches but these will involve an overnight soaking, regular bleach will either turn the bras from grey to another murky colour (most white cotton has been bleached already, adding more bleach messes it up - I once bleached a white t-shirt and it went yellow), and the bleach will dry out the cotton fibres making them brittle and rougher on your skin.

  8. Glo-White.  It says on the packet that you can use it in the wash, but I always soak items, as they come up better.  P.S It should be available from your local chemist shop

  9. Dinghy whites will brighten over night if you soak them in 2 tbsp of powdered dishwasher detergent dissolved in a sink full of warm water. Just launder afterwards (with bleach if the fabric is bleachable) and they will be bright as new.

  10. Tide works for me. But if they are grey they may need several washings.

  11. Why not try Glo-White, for net curtains? It's gentle on the fabric and seems to whiten off whites.

Sorry - didn't see previous post.

  12. Do not use bleach, that only makes the yellow. You can buy this blueing, or there is a whiteing dye. you find the dye right where you find the box dye at you stor, and the blueing is with the soaps.

    Hope this helps

  13. Why don't you dye them a different colour? All you need to do is go and buy product called Dylon in your colour preference and follow the instructions. Your bras will look like new afterwards.

  14. bleach x

  15. I do not think anything is going to work.  Could you get a best one for special occasions and wear the old ones for work or school?

  16. Purchase new ones . I've also heard if you hand wash them with some Lemon juice it really brings the colour back and they'll probably look in better condition when you got them.

    :)

    Hope this helped.

  17. Bleach & the hottest water safe for the material...

  18. Use DAZ

  19. Yeah! hand-washing is the best! Already tested. With citrus juices.
