Question:

My brass knuckles finally came in the mail, can I ask you a few questions about weapons in general ?

My brass knuckles look great, and fit great.

However, I know that I can never leave my house with them.

I also own a 3 section staff. I carry it to my driveway, and yard all the time to practice moves with.

( I have a feeling that if I had the proper bag for my 3 section staff, I wouldn't get in any trouble carrying it off my property )

Let me get to the point of my question. Street legal ... nunchucks, 3 section staffs, brass knuckles, and long knives may be classed as illegal.

What about at home self defense ?

( is a baseball bat the only legal weapon )

I'm not too good with swinging the 3 section staff. I bought these brass knuckles, because this is the one weapon I can throw down with. ~haha

If I had to use a weapon, I wouldn't make any fatal strikes.

With a baseball bat, my 3 section staff, or brass knuckles.

Is it illegal to hit someone in the arms, chest, or ribs with them ? ( in a life or death, about to be jumped in my backyard situation ? )

  1. This sounds like something out of Napoleon Dynamite.  All of these weapons are useless against the modern criminal.  You would be bringing "nunchucks, brass knuckles, etc." to a gun fight.  I recommend purchasing a handgun and becoming proficient.

  2. Apply for a gun to be used for home defense, through the appropriate legal channels.  That is your best bet for home defense.

If you need a weapon to carry with you, use a cane.  It's still a stick and can be hooked around the back of the attacker's neck.

If you are defending the home, why are you worried about legal strikes in a life-or-death situation?  Ask law enforcment and/or a lawyer about this situaiton.

Research the laws in your state and find out what weapons can or cannot be carried.

  3. dats why when it comes to dat i have my class k concel and its in my v everywhere i go so who want it ? and i got a green laser for my 10mm smith and wesson its in sane and i got a stun gun for hardheaded big tuff guys so u already know

  4. Okay, so I'll preface by saying I'm neither a lawyer nor a police officer. Just a martial artist.

If a weapon is illegal or restricted in a state, they're usually illegal for possession entirely. However, like "shuriken" in Nevada, they can be sold, but can't be carried. If it falls into this latter class, you can use it in your own home and run no risk of arrest.

The law is kind of funny in most places about the back yard. Typically, if you're outdoors, they see you as being reasonably able to escape inside your house. Once you're inside your house, your defense would be, "I no longer had anywhere to go, no reasonable chance of escape. If I can't escape into my own home, where can I escape to?" Remember, the police are under no obligation to save you.

If you use a weapon or even just your fists, you can still be sued (Thank god the law allows the thieves to get their take whether they make it out or not, huh?) for any injuries sustained. There are numerous cases of burglars or attackers coming into homes, being beaten, suing, and then winning. It's horrible. Even if they don't make it out alive, then the family sues. So either way, you're SOL.

Don't use any weapon that can be taken off of you and used against you. Baseball bats and staves are bad ideas. Brass knuckles are slightly better because you'll be down before he pries them out of your hands. Kitchen knives are great (Go ahead, buddy. Grab it.) and follow the general line of thinking, "This was just what was handy." Firearms can be problematic, but are good if you can shoot and keep your distance.

The best idea all around is to find the laws pertaining to your location and deal with them that way. General rule of thumb is you can only use as much force as is necessary to reasonably escape, and this is open to a lot of interpretation by a jury.

  5. As a martial artist I never anticipate using any weapons that I have learned for self defense. I am confident that if a situation arise I could use one or more of those weapons. I must agree with the person that said for home defense get yourself a gun and learn how to use it. It is pointless for me to confront a burglar with my tonfa. That would be very smart. Most burglars are armed with a gun. I think my 12 gage will work better in that situation. I don't take my weapons training lightly. I understand that if something happens and I don't have a gun to protect myself or family I can turn practically anything into a weapon.

I am aware of martial arts schools that are teaching the use a cane a a weapon. I had the opportunity to learn from some. The reason they teach the cane is that it is legal to carry around as long as you don't have a hidden sword in it. Most people will not expect that you are trained to use it. I think many of its techniques are very useful.  Most people assume you have it for walking.

I almost got locked up as a child for carrying my nunchakas. I was ignorant to the law. The officer gave me a break and took my weapon. A friend of my mother witnessed it and spoke with the officer. He gave it to her and she gave it to my mother. I got it back and still have it to this day. But I know not to walk around with it anymore. The officer explained to me that I can only have it when going to and from class and that I had to have it concealed in a case or gym bag.

  6. I think there illegal depending on where you live.
