a week old but doesn't have any mold on it. Should I still eat it?

  1. As long as there is no visible mold and it's not strange-smelling, it should be fine.  If there's any mold on any part of it, through the whole loaf away; microscopic filaments are probably throughout the whole thing, not just the area with the visible mold.

    If it's stale, use it for cooking (french toast, croutons, bread pudding, or something like that); staleness isn't caused by microorganisms.

  4. Every product has a shelf life. I would say, check for the expiration date somewhere on the bag or simply take a sniff of a slice. If it doesn't smell fresh...throw it out. Why I say this is that, you don't know how long it's been on the shelf in the store before you bought it. What also makes a difference is where and what temperature the bread was stored at.
