i have 4 budgies in a large outdoor aviary and 1 female has laid an egg in one nesting box and then went over to the other one and laid an egg there too. The other female came and rolls that other egg away and the breeding female rolls it back again. She sits on her 1st egg will the other hatch and do females have to sit on the eggs?

  1. Hi,

Yeah the eggs need to be incubated for 18days in order to hatch, if i was you i would take the egg which isn't being incubated and place it in the nest box with the sitting hen.

  2. females sit on eggs to incubate them.....

the 1st egg, if fertile, will hatch.... eventually...

but the hen(breeding female), will not have a chance to incubate the other one.....

only if the other hen will incubate it herself......

its hard to INCUBATE TWO EGGS IN TWO different AREAS u know?

pls email me of u have questions...
