  1. Stubben Conditioner worked best on my bridle which was soo stiff  I couldn't bend it...hope this helps =]

  2. Hi your tack needs two procedures

Dressing (saddlers term for oiling) and glycerin to hold the moister in.

First get your oil and poor a good amount onto a cloth, rub this all over, but don't soak your gear in oil, it will rot the stitching and stretch the leather till it snaps.

For a new bridle I'd oil it two days in a row.

Next use the saddle soap which produces glycerin. You rub a damp cloth across the soap and just as it starts to get tiny bubbles (lather) you rub this over the bridle, completely covering it. This in turn holds in the oil and moister.

It is normal for a new bridle to be dressed each week - followed with a covering from the saddle soap for the first 3 - 4 weeks. Then it will just need a rub over with a damp cloth to clean and follow up with saddle soap glycerin to stop it from drying out.

    Happy riding :)

  3. I really like Lexol conditioner for making leather supple. It seems to penetrate into the leather much better than wax or oil making the leather supple all the way through. You'll propably have to do several applications to make your bridle really soft.

If you put the leather dressing on the leather and you can see it soaking into the pores then your leather is dry and needs more conditioner. If the dressing sits on top of the leather, then the leather is probably sufficiently hydrated.

  4. some bridles are just HARD.

u peed on ur bridle? sick.

try massaging it and letting it sit  in humidity...

  5. u know if u put ur bridle in pillow case take of the bit maybe nad u can put it in the drier

wat u do is put conditioning oil on ur bridle sit for 2 minutes and then put it in the pillow case and put it in the clothes dryer

im not sure bout how high or anything but believe me it worked for me, my friends did it though

  6. Two coats of NEATSFOOT OIL... only two though or the leather will stretch too much ...let it soak in the first time then apply another coat with a paintbrush ... it darkens the leather and softens it up right away...you can find it in almost any tack shop...

  7. Yes, the Mexican used mule urine, to tan leather, and the Indians chew it to make it soft. Find a hitching post, rub you headstall with neatsfoot oil and work it back and forth, until it get soft.

  8. The best way I have found to soften leather is to take a bottle of Neatsfoot oil and heat it on the stove, then put your bridle in the heated oil for just a few minutes, best if you check the leather frequently until it feels soft.  It will soften in a hurry.  Do not boil the oil or leave the leather in too long.  I once had a friend that decided since a little bit of time did so well, that more time in the hot oil would do better, he ended up basically cooking his reins.  Good luck.

  9. Neat's Hoof Oil, I think, works the best. Might have to apply it several times to get it how supple you want it to be.

  10. I use neatsfoot oil on all of my tack... you instantly notice a difference when you put it on.

  11. I actually own a baby juicing factory, we squeeze and squeeze all the oil out of the infants and we package it and sell it as baby oil, you'll find it on shelves, it really works

and John L that's just sick

  12. LEATHER CPR!!!!! it works magic with everything, it cleans and conditions. Clean your bridle with some saddle soap, then put on the Leather CPR, and leave it on for 30 seconds - 1 minute, then buff it out. It will soften it up Really fast and make it super supple!! You might also try Farnam Leather New too, its more of an oil and it will darken your bridle for awhile, but that will fade out pretty fast. Use the Leather CPR, then apply the Leather New.

  13. Oil is the best for softening leather.  I also like to flex and bend the leather while the oil is sinking in.

Good quality leather isn't too hard to break in, but cheap stuff will stay hard forever.
