We're suppose to go on a road trip to Ottawa in a few days and my brother's refusing to go. He's being a selfish brat, and this is a family vacation, the only one this year. The trip is also so I can see my friend who moved away, but that's only for a day.

How can my parents and I not give into my brother's ignorance and selfishness! He just wants to stay home and play games on his laptop. He never goes out anymore, stopped going to church, and is addicted to his computer. He's only 14.

  1. You'll never "solve" it.  He'll grow up, you'll grow up and it will all get easier.  Sometimes not though.  My brother is 43 and is pissing me off again.....oh well.  You just deal.

  2. tell your parents to take everything that would be fun for him so tell them to threaten him by taking his laptop

  3. Your parents shouldn't give him a choice...It's a family vacation...no one is going to be home....there is NO WAY I would leave a 14 y/o at home by himself !!

  4. take away his games, computer and everything he loves and say " listen here, you're being a brat, and if you want to have all of your stuff back, you have to treat everyone in your family better and act your age".

Hope all goes well, and have fun in Ottawa!

  5. your brother is probably just going through a phase. tell him how much it means to you that he goes with you. and be serious. el him about how you guys only get to spend one vacation together this year, and you want him there. or let him read your question above, see if maybe he can understand your frustration. then try to put yourself in his shoes. maybe all he wants is a little time away from the family. that's understandable. sometimes my older sister drives me crazy!

  6. Maybe your parents need to attend to his emotional health.  It sounds like he's isolating himself from the world...

You aren't responsible for your brother, so you can't solve this... it's your parents' responsibility.

  7. slap that little brat until he give in. so whenever you ask him and he says no slap him just once. so he will learn not to refuse you cuz putting up resistance cause him pain on his face. ask you parents to join you on this oppression too. so he will get 3 slaps whenever he refuse to go.

  8. Actually a holiday in Ottawa - I wouldn't go either. Is that the most exciting place you can think of ?

  9. thats horrrible but brothers r like that

  10. by the time you reach 14 the last thing you want to do in life is spend a 'fun' filled trip with your family, or go on a trip to church, teenager...so not happening. And though its mean of him, thats brothers for you.

  11. Ouch!  Convince him to bring his laptop.  Hopefully once he's there he'll be too busy having fun outdoors than to play on his computer.

Just drag him along.  He might complain at first (drown him out w/ your iPod), but once he's there I gauruntee [i can never spell that right!] you he'll start having fun.  To be honest, I'm the same way: my parents will try and get me to go ice skating and I'll say no, but once they've dragged me there I have fun =]
