My mom has the lightest blue eyes and my dad the greenest but I have brown. My brother has a widows peak but neither of are parents do. Also we both have long skinny necks and are parents short thick ones. How did we get these traits if neither parent has them? Thanks!

  1. Try looking at your grandparents.  Although people sort of look like an "average" of their parents and grandparents each genetic trait is either expressed or not.  You get a much  better idea of where your traits come from if you look at a larger group.

You get the best idea if you can look at photos of yourself, your parents and grandparents if the photos show you all at about the same age.  Your mysterious traits are almost certain to show up there (excluding dark little secrets).

  2. You got htese traits because there is such thing as recessive and dominant traits, you rparents could both have dominant traits which means if there are two dominant traits or one dominant and one recessive trait that it will show in there physical appearance but if they both also have recessive traits and you get them then you will have something that neoither parent has :) hope this helped

  3. Interesting.  Widow's Peak is a dominant trait.  If neither of your parents has it, then your brother may not really be their son.

Edit:  Is it possible your dad has a widow's peak that is partly masked by male pattern baldness?
