Has anyone ever heard of this before? He hit another car and the other car hit a parked car. Someone told him he had to pay the other two parties deductible. Does that sound right to you guys?

  1. only the deductible?

he has to pay the full cost of the damage!

A car is no different from any other possession -- if you break something belongs to somebody else, you're responsible for fixing it.

if he has liability coverage, the insurance pays for everything.

if he doesn't, the other guys' insurance company can sue him to recover the full cost, and the other owners can sue to recover the cost of the deductible.

  2. I think you asked this on insurance.

He's going to pay for ALL The damages, not just the deductibles.

  3. no dont sound right to me

  4. If your bother caused the damage and the accident did not happen in michigan, then he's be liable for all the damage. If the accident happened in Michigan then yes, he's only liable for the other parties deductible amount or (I think it's) $300.

  5. no he should not have to pay. a deductible is an agreement between an insurance company and the insured person to pay a portion of the cost to repair a vehicle in the event of an accident. If your brother had insurance he should only have to pay his own deductible and his insurance company will pay for the damages to the other vehicles.  It sounds like this is an agreement that had been worked out by the parties of the accident to avoid calling the police. Ask your brother if he had insurance? It might be more to the story than he is telling.

  6. Was he insured. His insurance may pay for it after he pays his dedictuble.

If he has no insurance he is lucky that is all he will have to pay.

If the accident is his fault he is responsible for all the damage. The party's who's cars were damaged can sue on behalf of their insurance company's.
