How can we stop this aggression before we have a full on aggression/dominance problem on our hands?

  1. good answers on taking the food away..... also show him your in control of the food by maybe letting him eat directly from your hand, put a few pieces in your palm at a time and let him eat from your hand, you can also do this with little treats when hes good.my vet has given me lots of advice, dont be afraid just to ask.

  2. Don't panic. These things happen. When I was 16, we got a dog off the street who had severe food aggression. First thing you do is feed yourselves first, in front of the dog. Then, put food in his food bowl and make like you are eating it, in front of him. Sit on the ground, and grab a bit of kibble, and have him eat it out of your hand. If he snaps, take it away, put the bowl up on the counter, and walk away for a minute, then come back and do it over again. Eventually he will understand that he has to be gentle and cautious. After a few days of doing that, you can feed him half his food by hand and the other just by putting the bowl down, but only if he doesn't snap. Then you can wean him off of getting fed by hand.

  3. I trained my dog by petting her while she ate, taking her food away and then giving it back and putting my hand in her food bowl while she ate.

  4. Take the food away to show dominance when aggression is shown.

Let him know you are the hand that feeds him.

Move the food around your place to eliminate a territorial aggression associated with the location of his bowl.

Set a regular feeding time and remove the bowl when this time has passed.

  5. He's a puppy so it's up to you guys to train him. You can check with the vet to see if they can give you any tips. I would see about maybe obedience training or getting a video or a book on puppy training. It is important. It is the duty of responsible pet parents.
