My brother was laid off from his job some years ago and now he is currently applying for disability. He is sick and I would like to know if one of us can add him to our insurance plan or will we have to pay for a separate policy for him.

  1. You'll almost surely have to get him a separate policy because he couldn't be counted as a dependent of another family member.  If he qualifies for Social Security disability, he'll eventually come under Medicare.  Until then, he might be able to get a policy from a commercial insurer or a state high-risk pool.  But pre-existing conditions are likely to be excluded; although if he qualifies for state coverage, the exclusion will probably stop after a year.  Is he a member of a union or a professional association?  Sometimes, those organizations can help with health insurance.  See the webpage listed below.

  2. If he qualify for disablity then he may qualify for medicaid. Adding him to your insurance you need to contact the insurance.  My opinion if needs medical attention now DO NOT add him because he has a pre-existing condition.  I prefer that you look for a different insurance.  Try this site. www.thehealthbenefits.net  Its only 29.95 per mo. no pre-existing condition required, no waiting period.  Good Luck to you.

  3. No, you can't add him to your policy.  If you try to buy a seperate policy, IF you can find someone willing to take him, they're going to exclude the pre-existing condition, unless you can get him in to his state high risk insurance pool (which, btw, will still exclude pre-existing conditions for a time).

  4. Your brother is not considered a dependent for insurance purposes. I don't know of Any company that would write him an individual "separate" policy "being sick", obviously made so because he applied for disability. That makes him uninsurable. The only way I know that you could help him is to pay out of pocket for his medical bills, while he waits to hear from social security disability which could take 2 years or longer depending on his condition. I'm sure this is not what you wanted to hear, but you knew there were no easy solutions.

IF your brother qualifies for and receives social security disability then he will be eligible for Medicare in his 25th month of disability, no Medicare before then, maybe Medicaid IF his income and assests are spent down.

  5. possess as much information as you could maybe is one of the options, however it is quite time consuming, here is the resource i have ever had good experience.http://health-insurance.onlinebestoffer....

  6. If he qualifies for Social Security Disability he  will also receive Medicare and if income is extremely low that will be supplemented by medicaid.

  7. Most companies will only allow you to have spouses and dependent children under the age of 24 and they must also be full time students.  You are probably going to have to buy an insurance policy for your brother.
