  1. Tell him that there are still areas along the highway where militants will take over control of his vehicle and possessions. . . . if he even lives to see it !!

Driving would be crazy for many reasons . Do him a favor and help pay for his plane ticket. ..  . .which may save his life !!

  2. it is possible,,,yes,,,but the way the roads are is nicoragua and guatemala his car will be lucky to make it unless he has a hummer,,,nit to mention long streches in a lot of areas that have no gas station,,,he will need an auxillary tank,,to refill himself,,,this is going back to 1990 ,,when I was going to try the trip myself,,maybe they built more gas stations,,,i don't know,,and a lot of the dirt roads are paved now,,,esp im cost rica and nicoragua

the main problem will be all the paper work at customes,,,I not sure ,,but every country is different,  for this reason only ,,it could be not worth the hassle,,,,it not uncommen for people to get blocked from the mexican border for days at a time  especially if they are white,,

  3. He may be able to, but it'll take him for-freakin'-EVER.  There is no Interstate highway from Panama to Texas, so that trip right there would probably take 5-7 days, then add on 3-4 days from Texas to New England, and don't even get me started on crossing the borders between countries in Central America.  He'll save himself a lot of time, money and grief by flying to see you.

  4. There was recently a book/journal published by a retired couple from the US that made the trip from California to Panama in an RV.  They arrived safely without incident.  They planned their trip and knew exactly where they were spending the night and where they would fuel up.  They only spent the night in large cities in nice hotels and never traveled after dark.  That meant leaving a first light and finishing the days trip by being checked into the hotel with a full tank of fuel before dark.

  5. of course its possible, it would just be a very long trip.

    A plane would be quicker
