  1. The answer is probably YES, but I cannot tell you for certain or how much without knowing what country he needs a Visa for.  I have been to three countries in the past year that required a Visa and in every case there was a cost.  But the cost was not the same for all countries.  In each case we had to apply for a Visa at the country's Consulate Office.

There is Visa information on this web site for the US State Dept:http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw...

This web sites has information about Visa requirements for the US:  http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.h...

In each case we had to submit our Visa application along with the required fee, two passport sized photos, AND our passport.

  2. Hello,

I am currently about to start an officers cadetship for the cruise ships. Your brother will have to obtain a C1/D american Visa. This is for seafarers and cabin crew ect. You can get it by calling the US Embassy in london at 02074999000 (£1.20pm!) the visa costs $130 dollars (around £70).

He will require a letter of employment. His Fleet Personnel managers should provide him with one for a ship that will be entering a US port (even if that isn't the one he will be going on).

There is quite a waiting list for this visa. I booked my recently and the earliest date they had was mid September, so tell him to get in touch with his new employers about this (for the letter) and book it asap.
