No branch of service is completely safe. Even in peace time members of the military work in hazardous enviroments.

Well if he plans on joining the Marines, he'll probably go into Iraq. If he doesn't believe they do, just tell him to watch Generation Kill, on HBO, sundays at 9. If he goes Navy he wont actually go into iraq to fight, in fact he'll probably be traveling to different places.

Navy has some guys on the ground, such as corpsmen, but is also deployed in the Persian Gulf.

The Marines have been kicking butt, ever since this thing started with  Iraq,  They get the toughest jobs, and most of the toughest fighting.   The Navy have corpsmen, SEALS, and other folks that secure harbors callled Naval Costal Warfare.

The Marines fight in both Iraq and Afghanistan.  Marines is the favorite form of self propelled sand bags the Army LOVES.

However, the Navy while they're stationed there, do not leave the ships and fight.  Usually they have +5 aircraft up and ready to provide air support to the "Boots on the Ground".  Technically I suppose you could say they're fighting, maybe.

The Marines are the ones who carried out most of the fighting in Al Anbar Province in the western part of Iraq and in Diyalah Province as well near Baghdad. Those Marines have Navy Hospital Corpsmen with them. In addition there are Navy EOD teams in Iraq and Navy Seabees too. All have suffered dead and wounded. Tell your brother he is dumb as h**l, that is where I fought and that is where I got hurt. That country is why I have to take pills on top of pills and make countless numbers of trips to the VA for the rest of my life, and it all happened in Ar Ramadi Iraq.
