  1. It's a tricky route but not impossible. My friend was taken on as a Christmas temp and is now an area manager, so with enough ambition it is do-able.

First, your brother needs to take on a full-time post as soon as possible. A lot of companies only employ part-time except for management so you will need to check who else works full-time.

He also needs to start showing a real interest in the company and trying to do as many additional tasks as he can. Asking if he can help the manager putting out new displays or tidying the stock room after work are good ways to bring himself to the attention of the manager. Volunteering to go on training courses or to be the First Aider or H&S rep are good ways too.

Once the manager is on side, he needs to prove that he has the drive, ambition and knowledge to go further in the company. Don't tell the manager he is after his job, that doesn't go down too well!

If he has a good reputation in the company and has the support of his manager then it shouldn't matter whether he has the qualifications or not, becasue he will have all-important experience. He will be able to start climbing up the ranks and laying the way for a promotion or two.

    Hope this helps.
