  1. There are age appropriate books called "leveled readers" that have content that interests older readers, but has an adjusted vocabulary. Some publishers on the 'Net are:

Orca Soundings - Teen fiction for reluctant readers.

    Keystone Books

    High Interest Publishing

The other way to get him hooked on books is to check out some books on CD from the library that are very exciting. Just look up some of the books that you would think he would enjoy at the library and you are sure to find some of them on CD. Many Stephen King books are on CD and some libraries have a teen section of books on CD. It would be especially neat if you checked out both the CD book and the hard cover. Then he could read along while he listens.

  2. I would find some books of poems for him. There are some in a series of books by Shel Silverstein that were just worn out every year from students checking it out. One is titled "Where the Sidewalk Ends. Just find books that so easy that he only misses one or two words on a page. There is a set of peoms titled "Something Big Has Been Here" that was another favorite. Happy reading...

  3. use a ruler a black painted ruler and tell him to follow the sentences down with the ruler, he will find it helps the words stay in place when he reads.

i would say any large print book that interest him to read.

if you ask at your doctors they can put you in touch with someone who can help you with books and choices

  4. Have you ever tried the series of books (you only need to buy one for a long time of reading!) called: Choose your own adventure?   These books are incredible. As you read along, you much make choices................"do you want to go through the door, or down the stairs?"...............each choice made makes the story entirely different..............so, no matter how many times you read one book, you can have countless outcomes. The are age approprate. He will love these!
