We lost a hamster just a few minutes ago. She is our youngest one out of two and she gets scared really fast. She is also very picky about her food also. She likes cucumbers and the hamster diet food. I love her so much and my brother doesn't even care or want her anymore! :(( I need help. She is to cute to loose. I need her back safe and sound!!!! Please if you have any ideas please answer a.s.a.p. The last time we saw her was in the living room and we have a lot of gaps around the house. This is a emergency. I am so frustrated and I can't calm down about her not coming home so please I need ideas. AND FAST!!!!

  1. Get a small have-a-heart trap (rent from local animal control).  put her favorite food inthe trap, and the door will spring shut behind her when she is in.  We used this for a hamster that got loose when I was younger and we caught it the first night.

    Good luck!

  2. Put the cage in the room where she got lost in.  Leave the door open, put food dish out and a big piece of cheese, preferably swiss.  Hamster love cheese, any kind and she may go and get  it.  Watch for her, please.

  3. my chinchilla (yes i know way bigger and can jump) ran away and i found her in my bottom dresser so check anywhere that she is small enough to fit in. under couches and beds. also set out food if she gets hungry she'll find anything to eat. maybe have the other hamster out so maybe she'll come to that one. sorry thats all i got. good luck and hope she is alright

  4. Get the favorite food of your hamster and then put all the food around the house leading to the cage! Make sure that nobody moves it and be careful not step on the food and watch your step you never know where it might be wandering! Also put the food in a straight line not that perfect put in a way that it would be easy to clean!

  5. When my daughter lost her hamster, I put the cage in the middle of the room with the door open and in the morning the hamster had crawled back in his cage.  We were all shocked and happy!!

    Hope this helps!

  6. I used to have an escape artist hamster...

They like to hide initially, at least for a couple of days.

Eventually though, they get hungry, thirsty, bored, homesick, etc... and start to waddle out in the open.

    But do these things...

    1) Remove all traps, poisons, etc... Also, I hope you dont have a cat!

    2) Set a small plate of food out in the middle of each room. Hamsters have a great sense of smell, so try and use some of their favorite, most aromatic foods. Vegetables, bread, cheese, yogurt drops... whatever you think she likes best.

    3) Leave her cage on the floor, the smell of it might bring her back too. (BTW, your not keeping two hamsters in the same cage are you? Syrian Hamsters are solitary, just so ya know)

    4) Stay up late! Hamsters are nocturnal of course, so your more likely to nab her eating post-midnight.

    5) Be vigiliant and dont give up. My runaway once took me 2 1/2 weeks to catch.

    Good luck!

EDIT: The have-a-heart trap and the bucket ideas by two of the previous posters are great ideas also. Good job guys.

  7. just set her cage down in your house, she come back inside

  8. well set her fave food out inthe open in different rooms. Then check them every few hours and see what ones are eaten. And then look for herin that room

Remove ALL mouse traps in the house. That is how one of my hamsters died.

Just let her come out on her own. I lostone of my hamsters for a week and he came back so just keep looking for her.

  9. this happened to me. just look in the room she was in last, then if nothing shows up, put her fav. food in the middle of each room and run around the house checking each room. omg im soooo scared right now lol. i wish i were there. hang in there and have hope. ask family to help, and move furniture and everything. DONT GIVE UP!!! hope i helped!!!

  10. Try putting food in a tall plastic bucket with slippery slides and put a ramp so the hamster can go up into it. Once she falls inside she probably won't be able to climb out so you can be able to get her. Good luck! :)

  11. we've had a similar experience, or at least our neighbours did. unfortunately, hamsters often like going into the ducts of houses, but don't lose hope she is probably fine. Leave some of her favourite food in your basement (where the most ducts are) and also rooms like the kitchen and bathroom (lots of openings). also search the living room thoroughly (check behind or even IN furniture by moving it. it may take a few days, like it did for our neighbours, but keep leaving food in the same places and watch to see if she turns up!

    good luck! don't lose hope!
