My brother was hit by a drunk driver in 2005 and it gave him brain damage. Before the accident, he was a teacher and did lots of volunteer work in inner city schools. I know he hates the idea of a handout, he can't work and any kind of money he can get will help him out enormously. Is he eligible for food stamps or housing or something? His disability is about $800/month, which we must pay rent, electric, food from. It doesn't go very far. I'm just wondering if we're missing something that he might derive benefit from? He's a very proud man and does not like the idea of handouts, but needs help in order to survive today. The motorist who hit him was an illegal alien with no insurance and his insurance company helped pay for his operations but dropped him immediately after. He can no longer drive anymore, obviously. I just want to make sure we're getting everything we possibly can, as he dedicated 22 years of his life to teaching problem schools and paid his taxes and SS and I think he deserves to get everything he can. He lives alone now, his wife having left him because he is in such a helpless state. Any help would be appreciated very much. Thanks!
