My brother is 12 and he sleepwalks, but when he does he goes downstairs and falls down the stairs, opens doors, goes outside, and he screams out like there is something painful to remember. But when he wakes up he can't remember anything. Is there anyway to stop this or to help him try to get out of it. Cause I'm scared one day he will go to far.

  1. Sleepwalking is very common at this age. The kid is developing hormones, which can put his emotions and sleep patterns all out of whack.

Sometimes sleepwalking can be eased by taking some steps to ease his mind and subconscious.

Cut back on his intake of sugar and caffeine before bedtime.

Have him get plenty of exercise during the day.

Have him do something relaxing before bedtime.

    Keep his daily schedule regular.

Keep lines of communication open, so if there's something troubling him, he can deal with it in his waking hours, rather than allowing his unconscious mind to cause him to act out physically.

    Until his night-time roams phase out;

Put a bell on his door (something loud, like a cowbell or jingle-bells,) but only during the night. If he becomes used to it during the day, it will become ineffective when he's asleep but thinks he's awake.

Keep your own door ajar so you can hear him and help him back to bed.

If he talks to you while he's in the sleep-walking state, even if it's just a mumble, answer him as if you understand, and then say something like, "But it's late to talk about that now. Go back to bed and you can tell me about it in the morning."

Keep the stairs lit, to aid him from falling.

Keep the outside doors locked. Even though he can unlock them, it would give him a few seconds longer to get out and the click of the lock may alert the family that he's on the roam again.

If he walks barefoot, spray the front and back porch with water. He might not like the shock of cold and may go back inside to get away from it.

Tell him about his nightly roams. Give him details of what happened. Over time, his subconscious will get the hint that it needs to find other methods of dealing with restless thoughts.

  2. School boy, is completely wrong in the situation. Have you not heard of, you shouldn't wake up a sleep walker? As it can shock them, or possibily kill them. And i agree with locking the doors, but sleep walkers can find a way out, as he does. Don't hide the key, because sleep walkers can turn and possibily find something in the house. It depends what dream he is having. Maybe ask him what dreams he had? Just keep a close eye on him. Maybe take him to the doctors? (:

  3. JUST KEEP ON GIVING HIM TIGHT SLAPS ON HIS FACE TILL HE WAKES UP FROM SLEEP....  DO THIS EVERYDAY UNTIL HE STOPS

  4. Lock the doors so he won't be able to go around much.

And if he sleepwalks, just guide him safely around the room or gently wake him up.

  5. uhm... sleepwalking is caused by usually a secret problem.. try to get him to talk about what's in his head that's causing these sleep walks
