How exactly does being home school work? Where do we get a teacher to come and teach my bro and how much does it cost?

  1. Exactly how homeschooling works depends on what your brother wants to learn, what your mum wants him to learn and what the government says he has to do. Someone needs get onto google and find out what path to follow. Lots of others have explained how they do it. I'll be following "The Well Trained Mind" by Susan Wise Bauer and Jessie Wise. That'll be supplemented by all our SCA involvement.

You don't get a teacher to come and teach him. One of your parents works with him. If they work, it can be done at night and on weekends. If he wants to study something they can't deal with like piano or physics, they can hire a tutor. You don't say how old he, or you are. The both of you can study together if at home alone. He doesn't need anyone to watch him work on craft, in the garden, or at reading. As long as someone is around to answer questions or otherwise help him out, it'll be fine.

  2. you don't get a teacher to come to the house....your parents are responsible for teaching him...

    googel Cavlert....that's who we use.

  3. You can do online classes and take classes from other kid's parent's too.. but ur parents can teach some stuff too... like if theyre good at any particular subjects...

  4. I am a junior in high school and have been home eduacted all my life. I spent half of my school years in California. Try getting involved in a homeschool group, or a co-op. They offer certain training classes and/or classes that your mother may not feel equipped to teach. they also provide a good environment to keep up social skills. (and make lifelong friends) Find out the requirements for graduating and look for cirriculum to match. We used Bob jones, a Beka and Konos. Now I am using "A word in season" for english and history, Saxon math for alg and phy and Bob Jones for other stuff (languages, geo...) all 5 of my siblings are homeschooled as well. We have a blast. We spend lots of time together and we go on feild trips and stuff while others are in school. It has been a real blessing to be homeschooled.  Good luck with it!

  5. You don't get a teacher to come and teach your brother. That's not how homeschooling works--unless you are like the rich and famous and have the money to do so.

Your mother should be the one to look into the laws and options in California. If she isn't able to be in charge of this, then your brother shouldn't be homeschooling.

  6. start with hide and seek dont forget lots of tv and snacks

  7. You can find on line courses on the internet.....if you enter homeschool highschool online courses....I bet you will come up with many things....

  8. You can do a Home Based Independent Study program for free. Go and talk to the school and ask about one and see where the nearest one is. This is probably how it will work:

Your brother will go in weekly to get his work. He has to do tests and grade his homework and all that. At the end of the wek he goes in, goes over his homework with her, gets his tests graded, and then gets his work for the next week.

The problem is you need a lot of self discipline to do this, as there are a lot of distractions at home. Your mom may need to work with him for a while to get him used to being self-sufficient. Good luck!

  9. pie. THats the answer to your problems. AM i right or am i right?

  10. I think that it would be best for your brother to stay in School rather than be Home-Schooled, I really do not think that it is a fourteen year old boy's decision whether he is Home-Schooled or not.  It is the decision of the adults, if your mother has given in to him then maybe your mother needs to speak to his school and have a counsellor brought in.

  11. You'll have to talk to the school board in that area and find out from them the exact procedure for home schooling. They can tell you everything from the price to the curriculum.

  12. If it's that important your mother can find the information herself.  As the adult parent - that's her job.

  13. My sister homeschool all her children.  If you go online and type in homeschooling, you will pretty much get an extensive list of the different ones that are offered.  If your mom doesn't want to teach him herself, there are online homeschooling classes available.  Just make sure you look into them before you sign up because some do not offer a diploma program and if you want to go to college, you have to have a diploma and a transcript.  Good luck

  14. well i home schooled after a semester in highschool with a program called pennfoster its really easy they send you a subject in the mail of like 1-4 books thin books and you read them an at the end of each book there are 20-25 questions all you do is answer the questions and you can use the book because the questions are in the book!  its so easy you dont have a teacher beacause its so easy you dont need one.you can take your test online at the webite or through the mail and they give you your own student number and you make your own password to get into your own page with a record of all your grades and tests you've taken and what other subjects are left to take.I think it costs around like 900 dollars total which sounds like alot but it really isnt and you  pay 40 dollars a month which is what i did.I mean im not rich or anything and its alot cheaper than real school because you dont pay for lunch, and school supplies that the school takes up to use for themselves and they send you your supplies like if you have to do an art project they sent you all the supplies.i had to draw a picture of shading and things like that and they sent me the papers and pencils and videos on how to draw no extra cost it all included in the price.I did 1-2 books a day and I finished 4 years of high school in 1 year all by myself no teachers my parents didnt have to help me at all.you do as many as you want a day and set your own time and you can go out of town and stuff while every one else is at school its great. And you get a diploma sent to you too once you've completed the program.i usually dont let just anyone instant messenger me but if you are really serious and want to do this if you wont mind instant messenging me so i could give you more details on the website and how to get started.Oh and it doesnt matter where you live.

  15. From what I understand, it's the parent/guardian who teaches the student at home - so I'm guessing there is some sort of course that your Mum will have to attend, or maybe she'll simply be given a syllabus to work with. Contact your local school board, they'd know the best.

  16. doesn't cost anything except the money for text books.

i am homeschooled and my mom teaches me and my 3 siblings who haven't graduated yet.(she has homeschooled 4 before us)

join a homeschool group online. we're part of Home Life Academy

  17. is ur mom a teacher?

  18. Your parents can teach or he can do it himself (unschooling).

Get books and or computer curriculum.

    Go to these websites: http://www.k12.com/

    http://www.unschooling.com/

    http://www.abeka.com/

    http://www.homeschool.com/

  19. Here are the laws in CA:

    http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?St...

Next, you would need to find a curriculum.  Consider:

    http://www.abeka.com

    http://www.bjupress.com

    http://www.aop.com

    http://www.aceministries.com

    http://www.k12.com/students/

No outside teacher is needed.  Your brother is actually old enough to do much of the work on his own with a little guidance and checking up from his mother.
