  1. well first he has to join a local club then get picked or suggested by his coach to move onto the regional interleague competition then probably onto the state schoolboys competition then onto the state metro or country side then the TAC Cup then if he is an absolute gun at footy he will get invited to the 4 day AFL Draft Camp (if 2 or more clubs are interested ) or State screening session then he will get drafted to a afl club(if he is good enough to beat about 300 other players)

  2. I think you mean an Aussie Rules club as opposed to an actual AFL club don't you?  Just to clarify for others.

In any of the Southern/Western States there are clubs everywhere.  All he has to do is register before the start of the season with the one that suits him (local etc).

Best to check your local Aussie Rules Association for clubs.  Say you lived in Bendigo, just google Bendigo +'Australian Rules'.  It will give you clubs in the area I'm sure.

A bit of advice, go with the bigger clubs as a rule.  I mucked around with smaller clubs in a few sports and none of them had the coaching and support infrastructure necessary for a safe and enjoyable game.

  3. he has to join the local football club and if he gets good enough then he will be selected to play in a VFL team and then if the AFL pick you to be drafted then u go to the AFL. in my area there is a team called the altona vikings and my friends borthers friend use to play for them, then he got drafted to thr western jets and now if an afl club wants to pick him up they can so yer that basically how it works, he's gotta start from the bottom and build his way up, butit does take years to reach the top

  4. He really needs to join his local Football Club and get experience.

He then hopefully will get picked up by a selection team to play in a higher level.

    And goes on from there.

I wish him all the LUCK!!!!

  5. He can join any local club he wants. From there hopefully he will show enough to be asked to play at the next level and will be targeted by the larger clubs etc

Maybe ask another Q about which are the better AFL clubs in your local area and pick the most successful or the ones with the best reputation.

All players start at a local (suburb) level then play rep footy for their age then play for their adult local team, then for their region, then at a state level and from their into the AFL draft which puts them in the AFL playing for Hawthorn, West Coast etc.

  6. Well to get put into the AFL basically you just have to play through the junior ranks, and eventually somebody will see him playing and he will be picked up in the national draft.

I assume you mean just the local club, so no he doesnt have to try out if he is a junior, just ring the club and ask when registration day is.  Go and sign up and turn up to training.  Most clubs need numbers so there isn't usually a problem.
