  1. My budgie is funny like this too - he gets a bit "cage bound" if you don't let him out often. His 'wife' recently passed away from scaly face (he's ok though) but he would never leave the cage I think he was quite protective of her. He used to love coming out when it was just us and him. I suggest: Talk in a tone of voice as though very interested and excited about something OUTSIDE the cage Eg. WOW look at this mate! Look what IVE got!! And coaxe him with regular words every time so he learns them. We say "Come on, come on mate" and "good booooy" when he does the right thing. I swear it works - and same to get him back IN the cage when he doesn't wanna go back!

If he has been quite tame in the past and you know he loves you (ie not looking for how he can get out all the time - that wild streak some birds have) leave the cage door open and lock the doors so he doesn't fly away - put signs up to remind yourself if you think you will forget. This will get him used to the idea of coming out. Intermittently encourage him. Have lots of patience. Dont ever snap at him or you will undo your hard work.

Do something fun with him when he's out - eg have a shower together! My budgie LOVES this. And don't force him to stay on your hand or shoulder 24/7. He will come to you when ready and love you :)

  2. he is frighten and finds a cage the place of sancutary

  3. You must have a new bird you're trying to train.    Better to leave the cage door open AFTER the bird is finger trained (meaning he'll get on your finger as soon as it's offered), and let him come out on his own.  Do you have an OUTSIDE perch  attached so he can step out and sit?  Let him do it on his own and get used to being able to step in and out.   Be patient and slow with him.

  4. I have the same problem. My bird, Avocado is tame but doesnt like being outside her cage. She will sit on my hand in the cage, but rarely comes out. I think you should keep the cage door closed when not holding it, because too much freedom is not going to help. Encourage your bird to come out with it's favourite treat or toy. If this doesnt work, take the bird out and shut the cage door. That way, it will get used to being out of its cage.

  5. The best thing to do i think is to open the cage and let it come out on its own .The reason its going back in is probably scared and only feels comfortable in its own environment (its cage)

I hope that has helped good luck!

  6. I think he is still afraid of the surroundings. I suggest you do what he wants. If he really cannot cope, you can try lifting the whole cage up and he will be out. :D

    That's what will do.

Mine is the opposite of yours. He always moves away when i want to put him home.
