  1. Im so sorry about your loss i know how it feels I almost lost one of my parakeets 3 months ago to a seizure.O my god he been thry so much but little thig survived. But the point is as soon as the one got sick i had to isolate him for a while. well thet left my other parakeet really sad and lonely so i had to get him some company. They hit it off inmatter of minutes. You will not go wrong if you get another parakeet they are social birds and they love company. The sooner you get another the faster things go back to normal.

Becide birds feel when you are sad too and that might affect the one thats left. Get a male next time because girls tend to have more problems than males.I have all males and they seem to be in love with one another :)

Im really sorry about your loss i dont know what i would do if i lost one i know i'd cry till i passed out.

Get him company and i hope you feel better. keep me posted let me know wgat you have decided but i really hope you decide to get another parakeet. And dont worry they will get a long i guarante it. sorry again

  2. I'm so sorry to hear that. We have many birds in 3 different aviaries, 10 budgies, 6 cockateals, and red rumps, rosa burkes and quail.  So I know a little ~ Anyhow, yes, your little male budgie will get lonely, but will settle after time, you would be wise to get anther for company.

Secondly, birds/budgies do not get pregnant, they lay eggs, sit on them for about 21 days and then they hatch!  Do you think the female my have been 'egg-bound'?  That may well have been the case!  Good luck =)

  3. It sounds like your female was egg bound and died because she could not expel the egg.  This is caused by not giving them enough calcium and her muscles were not strong enough to complete expelling the egg.  Nutrition is extremely important if you are letting your birds breed.

The male will not be okay.  He will grieve and grieve over her death.  Hold him and play with him saying comforting words.

Then get a cuttle bone for each of your birds.

  4. if you've had them for a while, they got used to having a companion. you might want to get another one to keep the male company.

do not try to get the eggs out!!

  5. hmmm whats a budgie?

  6. no eggs require the mothers heat and knowledge to learn essential life skills, they're a lost cause. sorry

the male will most likely be fine but if the female died due to sickness or infection i wouldn't be certain

    good luck

  7. Bury the female as she is. Good Grief what a question, no, leave her body as is and put it in a plastic bag, dig a deep hole in the yard and bury her.

She may have died from egg binding, or she may have died from a disease, which may be contagious and if it is, the male could have contacted it as well.

Watch the male closely for signs of illness - feather's fluffed, sitting perched and not eating well or playing or on the bottom of the cage, or loss of balance. Those are some of the signs of sickness, plus the dropping/p**p change color or size and/or shape when birds are sick.

Note that colored foods like red or purple make same color p**p, that's normal. Black p**p is not normal, nor is bright red likely is blood.

  8. I had two boy budgies and when one died, the other became very withdrawn and didn't want to go out and fly and play.

Looking back, I wish I had got him a new friend.  Maybe if there are babies on the way this will distract her?

    EDIT

sorry, I missunderstood.  The female died.  Sorry.

I hope your males is ok.  If he stops doing the stuff he used to do then I would get him a friend.

My first budgie was fine on his own for a year or more and used to enjoy our company.  He also used to talk to his mirror and 'mount' a few budgie toys like his ball and a penguin.

The my gran found a little baby budgie out on the street after a storm and brought it to us.  This one never got as friendly as the first but they absolutely loved each others company and this new budgie lived most of its lifew with our original one so he was devestated when our oldest budgie died.

I conclude that if they are used to the company of others, they may struggle to adapt alone.  If he's not too old you could be a replacement your self, try spending time with it everyday if it will let you.  Talking and stroking it's neck feathers with your nose.  Make soothing click/tut/kissy noises.

  9. he will be fine unless the female was sick and could make the male sick too...

if there are eggs... ur male is gonna be depressed because he lost his mate....... too bad.....

the cause  of the bird's dying must have been egg binding...

its a disease to hens that makes them unable to release their eggs because of the lack of calcium......

always be and play with ur male so it would not be depressed....

  10. Depending on what your female died of, your male may or may not be ok. If it was from egg binding or something similar, it won't physically affect the male. If it was something in the food or environment though, it could affect him, keep a close eye on him to be sure.

The male might be a little bummed at the loss of his friend, but you don't need to run out and buy another bird. There's no guarantee that a new bird would even be accepted anyway. Spend some extra time talking and being with the remaining bird. Get him some new toys, keep him occupied so he doesn't get bored and lonely.

There's no way to get eggs out of a dead bird. If she died from egg binding and there is an egg ready to lay, being stuck would have more than likely ruined any chance of the egg actually developing into anything anyway. The eggs aren't all already formed waiting to come out either, they produce them one at a time.

  11. When our budgie died, her mate became quite depressed, but having our three other birds around has helped him. Get him a new companion, a mature female if you can.

  12. A budgie is?

  13. yes it's going to be allright for your budgie at first they are only in one spot then they act like how they were your bird may also be very lonely because budgies are very social creatures one of my budgies died and my budgie the lving one is very quiet....maybe you should buy another budgie to keep your budgie company

  14. if the male looks happy he will probably be fine

if she was pregnant and she hasnt layed her eggs then they will not hav developed enough to hatch, plus its a pretty sick idea!
