Hi, I have had a budgie for around 4months, I dont think it is very happy on its own, I was taking it out the cage regularly and it doesn't normally bite, but last week it started having green runny poos! At the same time this started it is sitting on a perch in the corner of the cage that it never normally sits on, there is a bit of rope hanging that its ignored since being in the cage, but last week when it started having green runny poos its acting wierd it spends most of its time attacking this piece of rope, when I put my hand in the cage it tries to bite me. What is wrong with it?

  1. give her a friend if you think she gets lonely

  2. The p**p has to dry and so it is absolutely normal. It dries so later is it is let out of it's cage and/or running around, it will be easy to pick up. Unlike other poops, they dry up.

    P.S. Don't care, sometimes it's barf.

  3. If your bird's droppings have changed he needs to be evaluated by an avian vet.  Birds hide illnesses just as long as they possibly can and by the time there are outward signs, they can be very ill.  You know your bird's normal droppings.  It sounds like you've seen a definite change.

Behavior can also be an indication of illness or discomfort in your bird.  You've seen a change in your bird's behavior as well as in his droppings.  It's really time to consult an avian vet.

On the subject of rope, any rope perches or toys should be inspected daily for signs of fraying and lose threads.  Lose threads can cut off circulation or be ingested.  When you take your bird to the vet, do mention that he's been chewing on it a lot lately.  There is a chance he's ingested a piece of rope/string.

I hope your little guy will be okay.
