My building inspector says I need to "turn in my handrails" what does that mean?

My building inspector says I need to raise and "turn in my handrails" and the mentioned something about 'if a blind person were to use them'... what on earth does he mean when he says "turn them in"?

  1. I would bet the ends need to be curved in toward the walls so someone could not get injured running in to them.


  2. I presume that he means the ends to turned in so that it curves away from walls etc and not just end

  3. pick up the phone and call the building inspector, and ask him what he meant....

    but its generally as one of the other answers states, to stop clothing getting caught on the end of the handrail

  5. the height for stair rails used to be 30 inches now it is 36 inches. the turn in he is referring to is that they need to end with either a return(the end curving around and ending back at the upright or they need to curve and end at the wall so that someone doesn't get caught or hurt by the end profile of the handrail.
