Question:

My bunions are hurting?? Surgery is not an option?

They normally don't hurt because I tie my shoes pretty loose. But in marching band, I think I ordered them a half size too small. (7.5 is fairly big, but 7 makes my bunions hurt a bit) I know this because I borrowed 7.5's before my 7's came in. It's only when I take the shoes off after a football game or something that my bunions hurt a bit and turn red sometimes. I've loosened up the laces a bit, any other advice that will help? I can't trade in my shoes...

  1. Bunions are a common problem that most people experience as a bony protuberance at the base of the big toe. A bunion, however, is more complicated than simply a bump on the foot.

When a patient has a bunion, the big toe angles in towards the other toes, a condition called hallux valgus. Bunions are most common in women, and the cause is almost always due to unsuitable footwear. The word 'bunion' is derived from the Latin word bunio, which means turnip.
