Question:

My bunny broke his fingernail somehow, could it get infected?

  1. i'm assuming its bleeding?  no it wont get infected just hold a tissue to it to stop the bleeding and put a bit if vaseline on there to stop any dirt getting on it.


  2. Rabbits can catch their claws if too long and can break and catch the little blood vessel in the nail also known as the 'quick'. This can be a little bit painful for the rabbit, but they tend to clean themselves up if it bleeds or anything and are then quite happy after that.

    My indoor lionhead jumps up in his cage alot if someone walks past, and when i cleaned him out i found a whole claw in his cage, i checked his foot, no sign of blood as he had cleaned himself, no signs of pain, just a missing claw that hasn't grown back.

    If your concerned at all then you can try and bathe the broken nail/claw with a bit of warm salt water. Or if it bleeds, a bit of gentle pressure can be applied and then the rabbit should be fine.
