Question:

My bunny has gone blind in one eye? =[ =[?

My bunny was the runt of the litter, and we've had him for about five years now. He's a dwarf lop. He's always had problems, and numerous eye infections in the same eye (I did follow the vet by letter, cleansing it every day, drops etc) it cleared up but kept coming back. Now he did seem to go temporarily blind in it, but then it cleared up.

Now though, he seems to have gone blind in it again, its very milky coloured just over his pupil, not like pus. And its a lot more obvious then the last time. Has he gone blind? Is there anything I should do? Does he need to be taken to the vets?

Thanks in advance =]

  1. My friends bunny had this before , and she took it to the Vet and the Vet subscribed some kind of special medication for it , I do hope your bunny gets better . D:

  2. Your bunny needs to see the vet.  The vet will prescribe optimmune eye ointment he has an infection the ointment is expensive but it will clear it up.  You will have to apply this for at least two months.  Good luck

  3. The same thing has happened to my rabbit, it's a cataract. You should take him to the vet and they can give you eye drops to make sure the same thing doesn't happen to the other eye, and they can remove the cataract but that involves surgery.

I haven't had the operation on my rabbit as the cataract doesn't cause him any pain or discomfort, and he's perfectly happy with just one eye.

  4. There is a a good chance of blindness but he must go back to the vet for treatment. i would ask the vet to look for the reason he has had all these problems too.

Rabbits who have constant eye infections are more than likely to have a hidden cause like overgrowing teeth roots that are linked to malocclusion of the teeth. This is also common in the dwarf lop breeds. overgrown teeth and roots are also common in rabbits over 4 years of age. Some just get spurs on their molars from not enough gnawing/chewing and good diet but others are born with this deficiency and it does not come to light until around this age. Eye problems can start at a young age and go on for the rest of the rabbits life where as some will clear up and reappear with the dental problems later on.

  5. vet ASAP!
