Ok, this wasn't 100% expected as she got out of the cage when the male was out. We didn't know if anything happened before we got them seperated, but her behavior made us believe she is pregnant. This is her first litter and my first time at this and I don't know what to do. They were just born sometime today while I was at work. By peaking I can see one is there and moving, but I can't tell if there are more. She has always been a nervous rabbit so I don't want to scare her by going in the room she is in. I don't know how to check the babies without stressing her out. I don't want her to harm them. Please somebody help me. I'm not looking for guesses here. I don't know much about this so I don't expect everyone to, but please only answer if you are sure of what you say. Remember it's her babies lives we're talking about. Thanks so much to all and sorry so long! (they are indoor rabbits)

  1. Just leave her alone with fresh water and food for at least 48 hours. Then maybe clean her cage without bothering the babeis much. You need to handle the babies after a couple weeks so they get use to you.

  2. Get both mom and dad neutered when she has weaned them

    http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/spay-...

    There's care info above too

  3. rabbits dont eat their babies if you go near them,

i've had over 25 litters and i've only ever had one eat 1 baby because she had 7 and couldnt look after them all. they eat their babies when they feel they cant look after themselves with the babies. all my rabbits let me handle the babies fine i only check to make sure they're all alive just rub your hand in the fur because you need to make sure none are dead because they can get sick being left with dead ones

  4. ok....i suggest u give them some privacy cus all mammals are very over protective and if u keep trying to look at the babies...the mom will eat em..belive it or not they do..im not sure why..but tht has hapnd before..just give em privacy and give the mom food...u may chek once a day to se if theyr growing but dnt try to grab them or the mom wil bite u..hope this helpd >.<

  5. No worries, she'll be okay, there is no need to rush her to the vet.

    What you should do, is take some of her droppings, and rub them on your hands{Gross, I know, but it gets her scent on you}

Now, go in and check on her, you should remove her from the cage, and check on her foof, water, and hay. Give her lots of hay, right now.

Find the babies, and be sure their all in the nest, none are out and off by themselves,

Count how many there are, and try to look and see if their all alive, the ones that your doubting are alive, gently touch, and if they don't move, pick it up, trying not to disturb the others, if it is dead, remove it immediatly, if it's alive but barely, don't take the strong possibility of it dying because it's the runt, or the bottom of the pecking order,

If it looks hungry, take a syringe filled with kitten milk, or condensed milk, heat the milk up in the microwave, untill it's skin temperature.

Hold the baby with your left hand, hold it straight up, don't lay it on it's back!

Put the syringe into the corner of it's mouth, and slowly release a few drops, it will only drink a little bit one or two drops, when it's full, it tummy will be big and round looking, and it will possibly fall asleep in your hands, Now you can try to replace the bunny into the nest, and see if Moma will care for it, or you'll have to hind it-Have to get up every 3 hours, and feed it.

If you choose to do this, it will need to be in a quite warm area, put a heating lamp over it, and add a blanket, or a stuffed animal, it can cuddle up with.

You must feed the baby every 3-4 hours or she'll die.

If your rabbit seems stressed, she may turn to canabolism, and start to eat the babies, therefore, you must remove them from the nest, and hind each one.

I have a lot more info for you, you can email me, if you need to do so.

Email me anytime, and I'll respond as quickly as possible.

But for now, follow the directions above.

  6. okay, take some rabbit food. enter her room quietly. Go to the cage and press your hand ( the 1 with no food) on it. then open the cage bit by bit. lay your hand with the food in it in to the cage . let her come to it. then carefully lead her out of the cage. then put the food on the ground. check on the babies DONT TOUCH THEM!!!!!!! then tommorow take the cage with the babies and rabbit to the vet ASAP.

  7. The same thing happened to me. God knows how rabbits get to mate through cages lol.  Just leave them alone for awhile. The mother rabbit knows what to do, even if it's her first litter.  Make sure she has enough warm bedding and everything else like food and water. Try opening the cage door and see if she wants to run around, then you can try checking the babies out.

Btw, congrats, baby bunnies are the CUTEST! Just make sure you don't let the male baby bunnies stay with the mom for too long, or you'll have MORE baby bunnies.

  8. I've bred numerous litters of rabbits.  The mom won't hurt the litter if you touch them, even if she's a first timer.  It's important to check on the babies and make sure they are all alive.  She might have some dead ones in there, and if you don't remove them right away, she will eat them.  Not pretty.  If it makes you feel more comfortable, you can rub her down first before you handle the babies, but I don't think it really makes a difference.
