My business partner has a Dell, can we form a network if I buy a Mac?

  1.  my apple airport express has eleven computers on the network.

    5 HPs, 2 dells, 2 , one IBM and one Wang

    There are no problems at all


  2. Yes, you can still run both pc and mac on the same network. As long as you have DHCP enabled  on the network it will assign your mac a ip address.

There are no problems running dis-similar machine types as long as they are simply configured for IP communication on the network.  You can use static or DHCP for addressing.  There is no difference with the Mac vs. the PC in how they communicate over the network.  The only real issue you may find is if the 2 machines want to share the same file types.  The Mac will have to be capable of reading Windows files etc.  The newest Macs have no problem in doing this however.  There is software available for the PC to read Mac files too but it is not recommended.
