  1. unfortunately, The Gov. and movie studios have specified required strict encryption for HD signals in an effort to combat p****y of High Def movies and TV shows, So I am assuming you have the option of HD service with Comcast and would expect it to work, but it doesn't your TV can't decrypt the encoded signal over HDMI, looks like you're stuck with Component, unless you get a new TV.

  2. HDCP stands for High Definition Copy Protection, which means that your cable provider has issued you a box that does not decode the signal properly for your TV to recieve the decoded signal.

I would contact your cable provider to see if they have a newer box that will enable this, if not as mentioned your stuck with Component cables for the HD signal.

Granted with HDMI and Component it will be hard to see any difference at all between the two, so I wouldnt worry to much about it.
