I was wondering if I can play Blu-Ray movies on this also. It seems like there are a lot more movies coming out on Blu-Ray than HD. Can I play the blu-ray on this regular DVD player with the HD wires or do I need a Blu-Ray disk player.

  1. A standard DVD player can't play Blue Ray. It just gives a better connection to your TV

  2. The short answer is no. A standard definition player will only play SD DVDs.

The long answer is this: If you have a small TV (under 40") there is not a lot of visible difference between the two. Save your money and stick with SD and an upscaling player. If, however, you have a larger TV you will need a Blu-Ray player and an hdmi cable to get full hi-def video.

Note that the video quality you get is greatly dependent on how you hook the player to the TV. If you are using one wire (composite video) to connect the two you are getting a crappy picture no matter what you do. Better is component video but that takes 3 wires (they may be bundled into one cable but will have 3 connectors on each end, blue, green, and red) plus an audio connection. Best is an hdmi cable which transmits digital picture and sound with just the one cable. An hdmi connector is rectangular.

  3. get yourself a ps3 you will not be disappointed

  4. You need a Blu-ray player to watch Blu-ray Discs.

The cable might enable you to watch DVD at a better resolution.  (ex. 1080p or whatever limitation your HDTV has)

If you gave the model number of your TV and DVD it would be easier to research.  So this is my best guess.

  5. blue ray and DVD are different technologies based on the same proncipal.  u need a blue ray player to play blue ray.  most blue ray players can also play standard DVD.

  6. you need blu-ray or a PS3
