My cactus has white fungi how do I get rid of it?

  1. It's probably not fungus it's cochineal scale, a parasitic insect.  Try washing them off with a mixture of dish-soap and water in a spray bottle.  It usually makes the bugs sick and they dehydrate and die.

    To tell, take a chunk about the size of a corn kernel off the cactus with a pocketknife or something and smash the clump on a flat surface.  If it turns from white to red, it's cochineal scale.

  3. I think it is a result of water on the cactus itself. This could also be the separation by the plant of the salts and other chemicals in your municipal water supply. I would suggest not getting them wet when you water, particularly when the weather may be wet or muggy.

  4. You have to clean the whole plant with soap and water before repotting it and be sure to use a clean medium and place it to a sunny area, fungi loves wet and shady places.
