My calculator and excel not the same?

=0.1/(((1+0.1)^35)-1)

0.1/(1.1^35-1)

.1/27.1=.003690037 on my calculator but 0.003689705 in excel?

  1. When you go from 0.1/(1.1^35-1) to .1/27.1 you ROUNDED.  when you worked in excel you didnt have to round.  However, when you did in this case it gave you a different answer.

    The best thing to do is to leaveALL of the digits in the calculator and work from the screen (or use a lot of parenthesis and type it all in at once).


  2. In addition to what Ames said, Excel uses 15 significant digits. I don't know how many significant digits your calculator uses. There could be differences as a result.
