My cali king snake burys itself on the bottom of cage next to very hot heat mat is this safe???

Question

the bottom of the cage is see-through so i felt where it was laying this morning (the mat had been on all night) and it felt pretty hot , enought to feel uncomfortable on my hands could this burn the snake and should i use something else??

ps.. the heat mat is the only heat sorce i have for its cage and i leave a small gap between where the mat is and the cage is (about 5ml) is there something better i could be using??

the snake is a lavender albine cali kingsnake if it makes a difference :)

yes its normal, but do you have a hide for him, if the hide is not comfortable for the snake then he will search for other places to hide.

but check on him and make sure he is ok and check if he has burns
