  1. The background bliriness is called, depth of field. To eliminate this use a smaller lens opening (f11, f16, f22) by using a slower shutter speed.

  2. Getting a slightly blurred image can be caused by several things. In the case of the butterfly shot (which is still a beautiful pictute nonetheless) it looks like the light wasn't too good so the automatic shutter speed on your camera will have kept it open slightly longer whilst taking the pic so as to let in enough light to keep theimage bright. This means that even the slightest movement on your part will mean that the image will create a slight trail and appear blurred.

Even if you cant afford a more expensive camera you can still improve the pic; play around with the apeture and shutter speed settings on your camera and switch them from automatic to manual; this will give you more control over how your image looks.

Its a case of getting used to it, but please stick with it; you have a great eye for a picture and I'd love to see more of your work

  3. 1/4 second, wide open (f 2.8), subject in shade, hand-held, probably too close for the camera to focus.

Some, or all of these factors caused the problem.

(No metadata available for the frog shot, so I can't compare the two.  but the frog is larger that the butterfly and in brighter light.)

My first guess is that you were simply a tiny bit too close.

  4. Well, I have a pretty cheap camera too and the problem when I can't focus is usually when I'm standing too close to something. Mine has a lot of zoom so I just step back two steps. Maybe this is the same problem? Hope this helps!

  5. Those are nice pictures, perhaps you should be a photographer.

sometimes, with point and shoot cameras, they take longer to focus on certain subjects. Especially ones which are so small, the camera has trouble picking them out, the subject is simply not big enough. However, keep pressing the shutter button, and it should focus properly. This happens to be sometimes with my canon point and shoot, it takes long to focus, and focuses on the wrong thing. What i do is just zoom in, make the subject larger in the frame, and it should focus. That always helps me.
