My camera wont connect with my computer?

Question

I have a samsung digital camera i bought off of my cousin, he didn't give me a cord or anything to install into my computer, but i got a cord off of my friend that fits into my camera (its not the same kind) and when i plug it into my computer nothing happens. My computer is messed up because it doesn't read CD's and i have an old web cam and when i plug it into the computer nothing happens either. Is it my computer or do i need to install something?

If you are trying to upload your pictures, buy a card reader.  You put your memory card into the reader and plug it into a USB port on your computer.  That way, you don't need your camera to do it, and it saves on the batteries.   Card readers are only about $10 and can be found at most stores that sell digital cameras.  

I have a point & shoot and a DSLR, and I didn't install anything that came with either one.
