Help! Everytime I slot in memory cards in my Canon Powershot S5 IS digital camera, and take pictures, and when I slot them in my PC and try to transfer any old picture to those SD cards, an error-msg comes out saying, "The disk is write-protected' and I don't like how my card automatically becomes labeled 'Canon_DC (F:)', when I try to change the name, it says it is write-protected too.

What should I do? I want to transfer pictures not taken from my canon camera into those memory cards, and I'm having this problem! I tried going through the menu function in my camera, but I still can't solve the problem. HELP!!

PS: And it's not because the little switch on my SD cards are all turned down to lock them. It's that my canon camera does something to the cards!

  1. It is on page 128 of your manual.

Here is the link if you do not have it anymore or dont have it handy.

Try to place a peice of tape over the lock switch. Have seen this work before or moving the lock switch slightly tward locked.

Does this happen with multiple SD cards or just this one?

If the tape works its a flawed sensor on the laptop card reader. (If you can you delete pictures in the camera that should verify that.)
