My car's alarm system appears to be messing up. ?

I just tried to unlock the car and the keychain doesn't work. I put new batteries in that one and a back up and it still doesn't work. The alarm light inside is now off. I'm afraid to open the door manually, because maybe the alarm will sound or the car might not start. Any suggestions?

chances are that if you open the door and the alarm starts to go off you just put the key in the ignition and turn it, that should disable the alarm-- if that does not work pop the hood and disconnect the battery

If it is an aftermarket alarm, you should be able to (within 10 seconds) open the door, turn the key to the 'on' position then press and hold the valet / override switch until it silences. This is typical for just about any system. The 10 second window prevents thieves from doing the same.
