My car's cassette player now plays a loud hum that overpowers anything coming through the tape. Help?

I'm not sure what the problem is and I do have a built-in CD player which still works fine, but my iPod relies on the cassette adapter to work in the car. There is no aux input for my Corolla either and I've heard really mixed reviews for FM transmitters, so I'd really like to be able to stick with the cassette adapter if possible...

your headers in the cassette players are damaged.I've worked with a lot of people who complained about this same problems. and i figured out this was the problem when i cleaned the headers with some cleaning stuff the noise went away for the most part t built back up after a while buy doesn't have the same problem as before
