I have a Peugeot 206 SW 1.4 turbo diesel. Only had it for a comparatively short time (secondhand) but I've noticed that on occasions, it moves forward when my foot is nowhere near the accelerator. Is this the turbo kicking in? Do I need to get it checked out?

  1. yes prolly could be very dangerous and maybe a MOT fail

  2. A good rule of thumb with cars is that if the car goes when you don't want it to go, or it doesn't stop when you want it to stop, then you need to get it fixed or checked out as soon as possible.

  3. does it do it after you have been moving or put foot on accelerator?? i had similar years ago in a g reg cavalier and my accelerator cable was sticking, so when i went to stop of slow down it carried on driving on its own. i nearly killed myself taking it to the garage when it was sorted !

  4. dose it do this when engaged in gear or when its neutral is the car automatic or Manuel.maybe that the electronic accelerator control unit could be faulty or the mechanical accelerator unit faulty,or could be combined problem.dose this car have cruse control.maybe faulty cruse control unit.many possibility's.

  5. On a modern diesel (or petrol) engine, the engine management will try to prevent the car from stalling - on times, this will mean that the car will accelerate to keep the engine running whilst in gear at very low engine speeds - you'll find that the car is pretty well impossible to stall, and will even start on a hill without use of the accelerator.

If it's anything more than this effect around tickover, then yes, have it checked.
