The alternator and battery are in great condition but the battery keeps dying. Something must be draining it but we dont know what ? Any suggestions? How about putting in a switch that will shut off all electricity (that is a last resort). Help we dont know what to do.

  1.   Have you checked your rear-view mirror lights? Make sure they are turned off.

  2. has to be the battery or alternator, or your leaving something on.

  3. lets see if theres a drain. do you have a battery charger??

First nite just disconnect the alternator wire and see what happens.

If it still goes ded then you have a drain.

If it doesnt,,, then you have a bad alternator.

  4. I don't know what kind of car you have but you should get a repair manual for it (Haynes, Mitchell, or Chilton's) are all good manuals. In my area here in the midwest they range anywhere from $20.00 to $30.00. They will tell you step by step how to check for any open circuit in the car. There's a chance that something like the under hood light or trunk light is staying on while there closed. You remove the positive battery cable and run a test light from the cable end to ground and start pulling fuses one by one. When you remove the fuses the light should go off, if it doesn't then that's the open circuit. (something like that). Anyway my point is to get a manual. They are a must have for any do it yourself repair person.

  5. Make sure you turn off the headlamps when you are not driving.

  6. first thing is your going to sear's...  after that clean your battery cables... go to autozone and have it check or any other real shopif a battery goes dead once you check cables and belt and have system check if it goes dead again replace battery... if it does it again then you know it has a short in a wire somewhere and for that you need a real pro... chasing down a bad wire is tough even for ones who know wiring.... sear's wouldnt be a place for that... you will need a old shop one thats been around town the longest time

  7. Sears must have missed something...try taking the negative cable lose and touch it to the neg post (make sure EVERYTHING is turned off dome light etc,etc....) if there is a small spark then you know something is drawing current from the battery. The hard part is tracking it down, pull fuses one at a time and do the test again, when it does not spark you are getting closer to finding it..
