Question:

My car door scratched another car. Am I at fault?

I drove to the grocery store and parked. There was a 31 mph wind that day. I left plenty of space to exit my vehicle. But, as soon as I opened my door, a gust of wind ripped it out of my hands and into the door of the car next to mine. The way I see it, accidents imply negligence, and I wasn't negligent at all. It was an act of nature!

I left my information for the person whose vehicle my door hit, but I really don't want to pay their deductible or lose safe driver recognition points. Do I have a case, at all?

  1. think about what you said your door scratched... so whos fault

  2. Sorry, but nature didn't put your car in that spot, you did.  You are responsible, sorry.  It was an accident, of course, and it could have been avoided by parking further away.

An act of nature would be a twister picking your car up in your driveway, and dropping it on another car in the store parking lot

  3. Wot a bummer! that is very unlucky. IMO at the end of the day it was your car that damaged there car so yes i think u should pay.

  4. Nope your don't, just see what the estimate will be and go from there but I will say that we need more people like you because you actually left your information, nice job.

  5. Hi, Unfortunately you are at fault. Turn the coin over. If it was your car that someone else had damaged then would you want to pay the deductable for something you had no hand in at all.

Just an FYI, if you get called by the guy with the damage, call someone like Aero colors or Dent pro to come out and fix it. It will run you less than 100.00 versus a deductable of 500.00.

Thank you for leaving your info on the guys car. Too many people would just sneak away without saying anything.
