My car got keyed, how can i tell how recently it was, like if it is new?

When was the last time you looked at the spot it's been keyed? I don't know what you plan to do, since you don't have any proof of who did it. Either way, put some mighty putty in the scratch and spray paint it (Ha ha, I heard it works well, they sell MP in stores like Target and Wegams now), or get it checked out by a car repairer.

Also, you can see if there is any rusting, but other than that, key marks don't really change much. Good luck to you and your car, hope you get it fixed!

First, take GOOD pictures of it before you touch it.

Then look closley and rub your finger on it, if like dust comes off it its new. If nothing happens, its more than a Day old.

If its brand new you might see the dust from the clearcoat by the scratch. You can tell generally how old if its rusted (wet climate).
