My car got repoed and i didnt get any paperwork!?

When my car got reposed the people that took it didn't give me any paperwork....is that illegal? i don't know what company took it. And i didn't have to sign anything! what should i do?

  1. They can legally take it without giving you any paperwork. Once you default on a loan it is no longer legally yours, so they can by law come and reposess it whenever they want to and you cannot do anything about it. Sorry!!


  2. Contact the bank or finance company who held the note.  They hired the repo agent and are responsible for selling your car to recoup their money.  They probably either have been trying to contact you and either you haven't responded or they don't have your current information.  Normally the repo company is required to remove your personal belongings and store them until you pick them up.  Is it illegal?  Not if the finance company and repo people followed the correct procedures, although you can check with your DMV or Attorney General's office to make sure they weren't required to give you some paperwork or somehow work with you on payment terms.  

  3. Make your payments on time like you agreed to do and you won't have problems like this. You shouldn't care what company took it, it's not your car anymore.

  4. Unless you were present when your car was taken, no usually you do not get any paperwork, if you are there then you may get a business card so you know where to go..

    contact your finance company they will have all the information on where you need to go to get your personal belongings.
