My car has a hissing noise.....

coming off the pedals.It happens after i change gear and i have to touch the brake slightly to stop it?....im going to take it to the garage but would like a heads up first please!!!!

  1. you probably have power brakes and the vacuum line to the power booster is leaking or the booster itself is going bad.


  2. hissing could be... a free-on leak

    -an exhaust problem (possibly your catalytic converter)

  3. "Vacuum brake booster" has failed.It is the part that give you power brakes.You will have to get it in quickly to be repaired.The pedal will require both feet to apply the brakes soon.Takes about one hour to replace.Est. cost to be about $200. Get more than one quote.

  4. The noise your descirbing sounds like you are hearing what they call a wear indicator for the brake pads. Have the car checked by a good repair shop. I would say stop by mine I'm honest and dont ripe people off.

    I'd say just take it to a good, reliable, garage.

  6. That sounds like a vacuum leak.  It's probably related to either the line going to the power brake booster or the booster itself.
