  1. Drive 1 and 2 are for when you need extra power, like when you are climbing a steep hill or slope, pulling a trailer up a hill (like a UHAUL ) trailer for example.  Also, when you are coming down a steep slope or hill, you may want to put your car on drive 1 as opposed to just using your brakes to slow your car down. But when you are driving in normal conditions and you are not hauling anything, drive 1 and 2 should not be used.

  2. Nearly correct, but 1 will only select first gear, 2 will only automatically change between 1st & 2nd.

DON'T drive at the redline in any gear - it's guaranteed to wreck the car.

The lower gears are usually used for steep hills, towing, or to get engine braking when descending steep slopes.

  3. Trash that piece of junk and drive your 1996 Maxima.

  4. you have an automatic transmission, drive 1 is first gear and drive 2 is second gear, these may be needed at times in poor weather conditions. It is best to leave the car in drive.

  5. These are LOW gears for whenever you need more power (yet with less speed).  You often need it pulling out of snow and mud. But you also need it when climbing steep hills, pulling a full load, etc.

If you still need more "live" explanation, ask ANY body who drive a stick shift - as that what we have to do MANUALLY everyday.

    good luck....

  6. I'm not sure about standard cars trucks whatever but in my car its an automatic and it automatically changes when your climbing a hill, you can tell I guess?
