Question:

My car insurance is too high under parent's name?

My sister added her car under my mom's insurance and they pay for both cars $347 dollars 6 months for just liability coverage.

When I tried to add myself to my mom they're asking me to pay $470 dollars.... I don't have any accidents on my record and not even a speeding violation. I am 20 and been driving since I was 16.

Why is my insurance so high and why is my sister's low even though we're the same age?

  1. Until you hit 25 and have no violations it will remain high.

It's the way its set up and no matter how good you are it will remain high because other people under 25 have a lot of accidents.  check with progressive.com or geico.com and see if they can give you a lower quote. its not always the best under your folk's policy.

  2. Due to the fact shes a female, she will be given a lower rate. Other factors include place of residence, where the car will be parked and so on. My rates are more than a house because I live in a condo.... When you turn 21 you will see your rates start dropping, also, think about getting your own policy. Good Luck!

  4. girls get a cheaper rate because they don't drive as recklessly as boys.  Generally speaking that is.

  5. try getting it under your own name.  are you a student? if you are try getting a quote from auto insurance pros.  i know they have special discounts for students.

  6. It could be your gender or the type of vehicle you are driving. Every driver is different, but it is a bit strange that the insurance company wants to charge you so much more.

You might want to do a bit of research online to see if that is really the best rate you can get. You might find that a different insurance company will offer you a better rate.

    Good Luck!

  7. Your insurance is high because you are a 20 year old man. It sucks but that's the way it is. There are some things you can do to lower your premiums though.

The first thing you should do is shop around. Surf the web, make some phone calls and you may be able to find a better rate from another insurance provider.

Usually an insurance company will give you a better deal because there are so many vehicles being insured (your parents, your sister, you.) But you still may be able to find a better deal if you shop around.
