I guess in the first warning letter they give you a choice to either pay $50 or turn in the license tags...but the only letter I received was the one saying they were going to revoke my license plate so I requested a hearing...what can I say to the officer when I go...I never received the first warning letter because I believe it was mailed to my previous address this is so freaking fustrating ... I need my car darnit... And I don't want to rent a car cuz I could do something else with that money... Like pay bills...

It is your responsibility to update the DMV of your address change.  So you really have no excuse.  But you can always try that (previous address), and see if they will reduce the fine.

    Good Luck...

  2. The judge will tell you it is your responsibility to make sure your address is updated.  I'm sure he's heard that excuse a lot and did not buy it then either.

I'd tell the judge that you did not realize that the insurance was not paid. However, that is no excuse and what steps you have taken to prevent this from happening again (such as setting automatic draft for the payments).   Dress nice for the hearing. Does not have to be a suit -- but do wear "church clothes" and be respectful. You may get a break just for acting mature and accepting responsibility for your actions.

This judge has heard all the excuses.

As far as the insurance bill goes.....the insurance company is only required to send the bill to the address on record. They have no requirement to hunt you down.

I suggest you go get insurance on your car - pay the fine to the state and see if you can get a plate.

I don't think there is any excuse that you can offer for why you did not pay for your insurance and continued to drive the car....there by putting every other driver (including the judge and his family) at risk because of your stupidity.

  3. They don't care whether you received the warning or not.  You are responsible for keeping your vehicle insured.

You need to get insurance and show proof when you go to court.

  4. Lets see.  You knew your insurance had lapsed and now you are trying to find a way out of your responsibilities by claiming you are innocent just because you didn't receive a letter telling you what you already knew.  I hope you have since bought insurance.  If you have take the proof to your hearing.  If you are lucky, they may go easy on you.

  5. Tere is no need to send a warning letter by the insurer

  6. You do not have any defense or excuse you should have taken care of it on time,as you did not they are taking you off the road.
