My car is revin on its self WITHOUT PRESSIN THE ACCELERATOR as soon as I start it???!?

Question

all of a sudden when i start my car the engine starts to run on it self. it RPM shoots thru the roof!

i dont even press anything. it just does it.

any suggestions on what could've been makin this ?

sounds like a vacuum leak, look under the hood for any disconnected hoses, or the sound of air being sucked. use alittle throttle body cleaner and spray around the suspect areas and if it revs higher when u spray it, youve found your leak

check the trothle body theres a s***w there that controls your acceleration try losin it a bit see if this helps thats what my car used to do..

It depends on what kind of car it is. Check your throttle linkage, it's might be bound up somewhere.

You may also have a broken motor mount, if there is a loud clunking sound when you start the car as well.

if it is a newer car you need to look and see if it has a code for a throttle position sensor in the computer, most fuel injected vehicles have a  t.p.s. which will cause the car to rev without touching the gas pedal
